The history

Hermann

& Associates, LLC

Out of a desire to provide responsive, high-quality engineering services and create a culture of integrity and teamwork, Alicia started Hermann & Associates in 2006 out of a spare bedroom in her home. As the company began to attract new clients and subsequent projects, that spare bedroom was too small, and the company leased office space on Gardner Lane in the City of Peoria. Upon landing our first major project with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Jeff officially joined the business full-time in early 2007. For the next five years, the firm experienced steady growth and built a core team of design and construction professionals and an expanded list of clients, including county highway departments, municipalities, and larger engineering firms.

Recognizing the need for larger, modern office space, Alicia & Jeff purchased a 5,000-square-foot commercial building on Galena Road in Peoria Heights in 2011. The space was revamped to suit the needs of a growing engineering company and to provide additional storage for equipment and supplies. The first half of the next decade was prosperous, and the company peaked at approximately 20 employees in 2014. A slowdown ensued in the latter half of the decade due to a cooling economy and declining investments in infrastructure. This caused the company to transition into a leaner version of itself and allowed us to focus on expanding our footprint beyond the Tri-County region. During this time, we procured our first projects with the Capital Development Board and expanded our reach to 5 Districts with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Just this year, the firm celebrated its 16th anniversary. As we approach the 20-year milestone, we feel confident that we are poised to grow again with recent passages of infrastructure bills on the federal and state levels. We are grateful for the clients who placed their trust in us in the beginning, and we are thankful for the many repeat customers we have had throughout the years. We also appreciate the new teaming relationships we have forged recently with others in the industry.

Team

After working for other private engineering companies for six years, Alicia started the firm in 2006 to provide responsive, quality-focused engineering services to governmental agencies and private entities in the central Illinois region. Alicia earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from
Bradley University in Peoria and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois. As the principal owner, Alicia directs all company operations, including financials, business development, and human resources. Alicia is also responsible for routine project management, where she can draw on her 20-plus years of experience in offering practical solutions to design challenges.

Alicia Hermann, P.E.

Jeff earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Bradley University. He officially joined Alicia in the business in 2007 after gaining ten years of experience in infrastructure design and construction working for other private engineering companies. Jeff is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois who manages the firm’s regular operations, IT, business development, and project management. Jeff has a 24-year background in most aspects of roadway design, including intersection studies, highway capacity, and plan preparation.

Jeff Hermann, P.E.

Jessica is a graduate of Bradley University, where she holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Jessica is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and functions as a Project Manager responsible for preparing and overseeing preliminary engineering studies and Phase II design plans for state and municipal clients. Jessica joined the firm in 2012 and specializes in highway safety studies and proposed countermeasures to reduce traffic accidents and improve road safety.
